Cliff Cave, Missouri Portrait

2020, print on canvas, foam, sand from Cliff Cave County Park, Missouri, 42 x 4 x 26”

This print reveals a positive and negative relationship of a landscape as a portrait. Using 3D scanning technology, the positive space is seen de- saturated, and the negative space is shown in color. It is not a reflection of the landscape but shows the negative space of the landscape as positive space. The sky is used as a positive space/ background and the canvas is rested on a shelf that ground the piece to its original location. The shelf is coated in sand from each location.

Right Thinking, Right Doing

2019, limestone and 2 projectors, 10 x 8 x 7.5’

Honoring my experience at the Brush Creek and Blue River Confluence this installation shows the history and re-evaluation of this location. I’m on a conscious understanding of the natural movements and erosion at the basis of Right Speaking.

Right Speaking

2019, Moss and mixed media, 4 x 3 x 5'

Continuing on this consciousness, the solid nature of the larger rock is taken and is viewed in a hollow context. There’s a shift in the stream using 3D scanning technology. The terrain and forms reveal a different type of erosion and perception of the confluence area.

Three Parts of Delta

2019, Red Oak, 6.5 x 2 x 1.5'

This tree trunk meeting a structurally sound triangle shows a form contained in its history through the continuation of natural gestures. The sculpture is at a level that's both factual & fictional and connects with delta as a landform and a greek symbol.

Balanced Rock Around & Below

2019, Alder, PLA, 26.5 x 16.5 x14"

This begins from a 3D scan of a monument in Arches National Park, Utah. The addition of a 3Dimensional grid speaks to a system easily recognizable by man. The combination of the grid and the digital footprint of the natural form is a relationship that lies on a demarcation line between being and reality.

Extracted Ground
